Minimize your business risk by building schedules re-calibrated to the number of people and skills you actually have available on a given day.
Let your most-capable people shine by staffing them into multiple compatible roles concurrently. Giving people opportunities to demonstrate their competence is a huge, documented factor in job satisfaction: if a single person can open the shop, make coffees, work the register, take inventory, and so on, Slate can staff them that way. And Slate knows that not every role combines well with others, so it won’t put someone in a back-of-house Cook role at the same time as a front-of-house Waitstaff role, unless you want it to.
Help grow your people into the roles you most need to develop by identifying roles where you have less coverage, and matching folks who don’t have that specific skill – yet – with a mentor who does.
Help you and your employees see how well you’re aligned by giving you visibility on how often you honored an employee’s preferences compared with when you couldn’t.
Build up a corpus of experience data for each participant from ad-hoc notes and worked time, so next week your schedules reflect the skills your team developed this week.
Integrate with your existing systems – If you use HR software like Gusto, we plan to let you pull data from there to fill in your people, and then push the roster back out. Let us know if you’d like to see support a particular system.

Who else is Slate for

Organizations where staffing is very variable, especially volunteer-driven or volunteer-reliant ones: civic orgs like museums, advocacy orgs, sporting officials (roller derby, soccer, etc.).

Who Slate isn’t for (probably)

If all your people come in every day (like if you run a software development shop with 20 folks), you may not think you’d use us, but Slate can help you give your folks mentor opportunities in the areas you need to grow.
